These ARCS areTPDOC45A.ARC containing S}ections1-6TPDOC45B.ARC containing Sections7-12/Version 4.54/is the current release. It has many more features and su}pports a wider range of configuration options than any previous version of TP.Version 4.5 was originally going to be releas}ed only to registered users and acompanied by printed documentation. It would be released to the public 90 days later.Ther }e were a couple of considerations that caused a change in plans.First, I decided that I had no right to ask a registered us }er who paid for TP not to distribute it as they wished. For this reason registered users are encouraged to distribute their }copy of TP v4.5. I WILL NOT DISTRIBUTE THE PROGRAM except to registered users, beta testers, and thru payment for the distri }bution disk. It is available for general distribution only from the registered users. This includes future enhancements suc }h as the HELP system and the extensions. They can distribute it as they please. This is explained in more detail in Sectio}n1 of the documentation. Also, those folks that registered the program before this release saved $10.00 on the registration} fee.Second, folks asked for the documentation in as many different printed configurations as you can think of. I guess th}is is typical of the folks that use TP.For this reason I am distributing the complete documentation to TP v4.5 in TP editor} format. The user can then format the documentation any way that they wish. What's New----------This release answers ma}ny of the most frequent requests of TP users. These are83 1. ALL OF THE DOCUMENTATION for the program is contained in th}ese archives. The documentation covers all aspects of the new version, including the basic editor and macro features. For t}he first time the menu and print features are fully documented.3 2. TP v4.5 is THE MOST GENERIC VERSION OF TP ever. It wi}ll configure itself automatically to support five different DOS types at startup. Subdirectory support from the menu is prov}ided for all versions of SpartaDOS and for MyDOS 4.5.3 3. Key re-direction is supported in the configuration of v4.5, allo}wing the user to assign key commands to whatever control keys are desired.3 4. Configuration of print defaults and a large} number of programmable softkeys are supported in both versions, making the program almost totally configurable.3 5. Versi}on v4.5 allows the user to configure the size of the paste buffer from 260 bytes to 4K. This option is selectable at start-u}p.3 6. Pressing OPTION+SELECT in the editor now calls inverse macro keys. This doubles the number of potential macro keys} that can be defined.5 EVEN EXPERIENCED TP USERS SHOULD BROWSE THE DOCUMENTATION. Especially the menu documentation, sinc}e the new support for wildcards in delete and rename operations can wreak havoc on the un-informed. There are also small ite}ms that may get overlooked but that you may find useful, such as the ability to pause and break a global search, or the chang}ing of the LASTLOAD variable with the first save. This is the most powerful and flexible version of TP available. You will }also be pleased to find that the extra power costs no text buffer space from the original v4.0X/M.Good luck with the new Te }xtPRO+.-ronnie-/END/Ronnie Riche1700 Aycock St.Arabi, La 70032from the original v4.0X/M.Good luck with the new TeH TPDOC.A01 - doc #1 of the new TextPRO+ documentation files. Introduction---------------The TextPRO+ documentation consists of twelve TP files that ca&}n be printed using TP or read from the editor. Even for seasoned TP users a quick browse of the entire documentation is advi'}sed since there are a lot of changes in the latest versions of TP. For those familiar with TP check the READ.ME file first. (} The TPDOC.TOC file is the Table of Contents for the entire documentation set.1.1 About ShareWare-------------------Tex)}tPRO+ is distributed as ShareWare. Users are not required to register the program by paying the shareware fee listed above, *}but some advantages are offered to those that do.All registered users will receive a copy of the latest release in the mail+} and I will reply to correspondence from registered users. You also are encouraging and supporting ShareWare program develop,}ment, probably the only source of new programs for the ATARI8.In addition, the load screen of each registered copy contains-} the name and registration number of the registered user. Please send a check for $10.00 in the name of the registered user .}with the registration fee. DEDUCT THIS AMOUNT FROM THE REGISTRATION FEE. I will forward the check to the registered user./}This is not an original concept. It offers those that contribute something extra for the contribution without depriving anyo0}ne of the chance to use and evaluate the full package. This applies only to registered copies that were obtained by sending 1}in the registration fee.Distribute TP as you please. Software is made to be copied. I WILL NOT DISTRIBUTE THE PROGRAM ITS2}ELF except as mentioned here. TP v4.5 will be available only from registered users. They can upload their copy for distribu3}tion wherever they wish.1.2. Textpro Versions---------------------The first version of Textpro was v1.1, distributed in4} early 1986. Later in 1986 v1.2 was distributed, followed shortly by v1.2a which corrected a bug in the original v1.2. The 5}latest release of v1.2 is v1.2c which was updated in August 1989. Version 1.2c fixes a couple of bugs and has a new load scr6}een.The 1.2 versions use special TextPRO extensions that add extra features to the program. A number of extensions were di7}stributed, the most powerful being the 2.5e extension for AtariDOS and the 2.3e extension for SpartaDOS. These "macro extens8}ions" added numerous features to v1.2.Following in late 1986 were the "r" versions, 2.5r and 3.2r, which were the first ver9}sions to have the popular file divide features from the editor. All of the additional features contained in the v1.2 extensi:}ons were built into the "r" versions.Since you have this documentation you should also have a 1990 release of the TextPRO+ ;}program. These programs contain all of the features of previous TextPRO+ versions and extensions and many additional feature<}s. Previous versions have been released for both SpartaDOS and MyDOS, 4.0X and 4.0M. All of the later TP versions are disti=}nguished by using the title TextPRO+.The TextPRO+ versions run from high memory in contrast to early versions which loaded >}into low memory. All available free memory is used by the PLUS versions for the text buffer so the lower the LOMEM, the larg?}er the buffer. Using SpartaDOS 2.3 the text buffer is about 22K. With AtariDOS 2.5 there is 18.5K available for text.This@} documentation covers version 4.5 of TextPRO+. If you are still using version 1.1, 1.2, the "r" versions, or v4.0X/M I advisA}e that you obtain a later release of the program. TextPRO+ v4.5 is available from any registered user. CompuServe, GEnie, aB}nd many bulletin boards will probably have the program soon after release. You can also obtain the TextPRO+ Distribution DisC}k by mailing $15.00 to the address listed above. This disk contains the latest distribution version of the program and the cD}omplete documentation. The distribution version is identified by a release date in place of the name and reg#. It's operatiE}on is identical to the registered version.1.2.1. Updating Changes-----------------------Sections of the documentation mF}arked with an outdented "+" explain new features or changes supported by v4.5. TextPRO+ v4.5 is significantly different in mG}any areas, especially in regards to config files and options. The complete documentation is distributed with v4.5. The "+" H}indicator is also displayed in theTable of Contents - TPDOC.TOC.If you are a previous TextPRO+ user and simply want to upI}date yourself on the new features you may select these sections for reading from the TOC file.1.3. Setup and Loading-----J}-----------------TP is a binary load file and is loaded from AtariDOS with the "L" option from DOS or at bootup by naming iK}t AUTORUN.SYS. Using a command processor DOS such as SpartaDOS or OSA+ just type in the filename and press RETURN. TextPRO+L} like all versions of TP looks on drive #1 for a number of supporting files after loading. These files are loaded automaticaM}lly and add special configuration options to the program.TEXTPRO.FNT is any GRAPHICS 0 font. This font will be used in theN} editor.TEXTPRO.CNF is the configuration file. Some of the features of CNF files are explained in the following section. O}This file saves all of the user interface, printer, and format selections.TEXTPRO.MAC is the macro file loaded at startup. P} This adds special macro functions to the program. If these files are not located by TP the program loads "bare" using the bQ}uilt in default values. Macro and config files can be loaded from the editor at any time. A font must be selected at startuR}p by naming it TEXTPRO.FNT.After the load screen appears for a few moments you will find yourself in the TP editor. The toS}p line will display the version # and a ">" followed by a DOS specifier. Version 4.5 configures itself for five different DOT}S packages automatically. The DOS specifiers are:"MDos" for MyDOS Version 4.5 and above"SDos" for SpartaDOS disk based vU}ersions, 2.3-3.2"XDos" for the SpartaDOS-X cart"ADos" for AtariDOS.If TP does not recognize the DOS it will configure iV}tself to"?Dos" by default.Special features of the particular DOS, such as binary load and write verify, are not supportedW} in this configuration unless they use the standard AtariDOS 2.0/2.5 protocols. If the DOS type is recognized support is proX}vided for the full range of DOS features, including subdirectory support in both SpartaDOS and MyDOS. Binary load, verify toY}ggle, and special directory listings are also supported. These features are described in greater detail in Section10 of theZ} documentation.2 + 1.3.1. Allocating the Paste Buffer2 ----------------------------------After the load screen appe[}ars during program startup you can hold down the OPTION key to configure the paste buffer. The prompt"Allocate Paste (2-16\}) Pages: #"will appear. Specify the number of pages (256 byte segments) to be allocated for the paste buffer. Choosing "1]}6" sets paste at 4K, choosing "2" sets paste a bit over 255 bytes. TP uses a fixed paste buffer so the smaller the paste buf^}fer the larger the text buffer. The original default size is "8" for a 2K buffer.Following the paste buffer allocation you_} will be prompted for a "SoftKEY". This is explained in Section9. For the time being you can just press RETURN to continue`} to the editor.TP is a "clean screen" word processor. This means that TP is command driven rather than using a menu interfa}ace. There is only a single line at the top of the screen for prompts and commands. This leaves 23 lines in the editor avaib}lable for text. Section2 covers the features of the TP editor.1.4. It will load automatically at startup. There are three font selections available in the archive.n} The TEXTPRO.FNT file is a Roman style font selection. To pick a macro file to add special features name it TEXTPRO.MAC on o}your TP disk. The HELP.MAC macro in the archive activates the TP help system. If you are using this macro as TEXTPRO.MAC prp}ess HELP on an XL-XE or
